show Abstracthide AbstractSubfamily Podophylloideae (Berberidaceae) comprises four genera (Podophyllum, Sinopodophyllum, Diphylleia, Dysosma), with an intercontinental disjunct distribution between eastern Asia (EA, ca. 10 spp.) and eastern North America (ENA, 2 spp.). These species differ morphologically with respect to floral traits and occupy diverse ecological habitats. Therefore, Podophylloideae provides an excellent opportunity to elucidate the biogeographic patterns of EA and ENA disjunction and the drivers of species diversification. However, phylogenetic relationships within this subfamily are still unclear. In this study, we presented large scale transcriptome data to resolve the phylogeny of Podophylloideae, as well as infer historical biogeography and evolutionary patterns.
